How to spend a day off

I managed a good 75km spin today with a good hill section right in middle to zap all energy from legs.  I know I am in need of plenty bike work so with new training plan starting next week this is a start.  No better way to make the most of my day off work. I will throw a run in at some stage over weekend and some well needed rest too! 

Lough Key Camping

A slightly more relaxed weekend camping in Lough Key Forest park to add to recovery from race last week and more importantly hang out with friends and family. We took part in Boda Borg and Zipit activities on Saturday. One is mostly a mind and maze event while zipit was some adventure fun with climbing and ziplines along with torrential downpours to keep us cool. Good old Irish camping weather with mud and midges to keep us on our toes!

I threw in a bike ride early on Sunday morning just to keep the legs ticking over. Here are a few photos from my spin and stats on garmin below with links to a little training during the week also! Training plan for next big race, Gaelforce West to be sorted in next day or two.

Injury test spin

A 20km spin on the bike this afternoon to test injury out. The good news is all was well. It seems the abductor muscle is not that important on the bike and I should be able for a few tougher cycles over the next few days.

Weeks rest (not including one 16 hour shift at work!) should stand to me in training over next few weeks. Sometimes I think the body tells us to rest with injuries. Lets hope I can fit in some good sessions between now and the 10th of May. Connemara here we come !


Monday Spin out West

A long day at work today so I literally ran in door and back out again on the bike. It was a cold spin out the coast into a nice head wind but all in all a good session and feeling good considering match yesterday. I plan to climb Carrauntoohill, Ireland’s tallest mountain on Thursday. I am working the weeks training around this so a good gym session with a run along with soccer training tomorrow, and a  rest day Wednesday should set me up nicely !



A nice healthy dinner tonight.

Recipe : Wild trout, “caught myself!”, sweet potatoes with herbs and chilly, and a salad with radishes,red peppers,wild garlic, fresh coriander, fresh mint leaves, lemon juice and some rapseed oil. Some salt and pepper added to all.
