Calm and wet Nafooey

Myself and David hit for the hills on the road bikes today. We decided to focus on some hill repeats and where better to do this than around Lough Nafooey and the Maam valley in Connemara. It was wet but calm and on occasion we came out of the mist.

A view near Finny of Lough Nafooey.

We started near Maam Cross on a 70km route including some hill repeats. I was feeling good after keeping my bike fitness up on watt bike and turbo all winter. The uphills were actually fun, tough but definately more fun than usual. The views peaking out under the heavy mist were spooky but amazing at the same time. The red and browns in the bogs versas the blues and greys in the sky really make it a beautiful time of the year. The sun even decided to peak through a few times! Once the whole body is covered and your gear is waterproof it’s well worth getting out. We spent 3 hours in the saddle with a sandwich break in Clonbur in the rain!

David still smiling at the top of a climb.
